Canadian Organic Market Reaches $9.75 Billion as COTA Prepares for 2025 Organic Summit

OTTAWA, Ontario (October 2, 2025) – Canadian consumers are making their values known at the checkout. In 2024, Canadians spent $9.75 billion on organic products, with organic food and beverage sales alone reaching $7.77 billion—an 8.21% increase from the previous year. This remarkable growth underscores a deepening commitment to health, sustainability, and transparency, reflecting how organic continues to be a driving force in Canada’s evolving food system.

Against this backdrop of growth, the Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) is gearing up to host its flagship hybrid event, the Organic Summit, alongside Parliament Day in Ottawa this November. The Summit will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to address key challenges, explore opportunities, and shape the future of the organic sector in Canada. Expert speakers share valuable insights tailored for Canada’s organic businesses.

  • Sales & Market Research: Stay ahead with insights into the latest research and regulatory updates.

  • Industry Analytics: Explore trends shaping the organic market in Canada.

  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with peers, innovators, and leaders driving the organic movement.

  • Organic Parliamentary Reception: Beginning at 5:30 PM on Parliament Hill, engage with policymakers and amplify the voice of the organic sector.

“The Organic Summit and Parliament Day offer a powerful platform to advance the future of organic in Canada,” said Tia Loftsgard, Executive Director of COTA. “As we work toward implementing Canada’s Organic Action Plan, this event will energize our sector to strengthen biodiversity, foster sustainability, and protect human and soil health through organic leadership.”

The Organic Summit is an opportunity for all to learn about organic farming as an impactful approach to production and processing. Organic prioritizes sustainability and actively addresses climate change and ecological health. By fostering clean waterways, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting robust human and soil health, organic practices are fundamental to a resilient environment. Certified organic products—backed by a stringent, third-party regulated and audited system under the Canadian Food Inspection Agency—guarantee that rigorous, science-based production standards are upheld, offering consumers trusted assurance of quality and environmental stewardship.

To encourage widespread coverage and elevate the conversation around Canada’s growing organic sector, COTA is offering complimentary online media passes to the 2025 Organic Summit. This exclusive opportunity invites journalists, reporters, and media representatives to access insightful presentations, data-driven sessions, and advocacy discussions that will spotlight market trends, scientific breakthroughs, and policy developments shaping the organic sector. Media attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the industry’s challenges and advancements while helping amplify the visibility and influence of Canada’s organic movement.
